MAURITANIA HOPES OUT OF FEARS ! by Seyid

By Seyid Ould Seyid
Professor –consultant
advisor@mauritel.mr

Dearest readers, do you still remember the desperate tone of the President speaking in the economy capital, Nouadhibou, about the general situation of the country? After his presidential statements, I heard so many critical remarks. Some have gone too far in desperation, just to reflect the views of the disappointed, visited population, if not the entire nation.» The President was powerless in that catastrophic declaration, reaction of unhappy citizens”. “He seemed to be critical of the situation himself when he confirmed that we are a nation of little production and much importation, revealed others.

Despite hearing all problems and complains democratically, he is did not solved any, reported certain observers who attended what they have called intense meetings that put the whole system under fire. Others have appreciated the frankness of the President and his usual modesty. He was speaking from his mind and opening up his heart, as he put it himself. Such character might be desirable and even well needed but the sad reality is that such nation does not like frankness at all!

The elect, trusted President- as commercialized in the electoral campaign - delivered his speech and defended himself as wise, trusted leader in a new, innocent regime- like former one claimed his innocence on many national occasions- that has to deal with problems and mismanagement of other regime. The only sparking hope of that desperate night, in that desperate city of this desperate nation was the presidential promises by the beginning of next month. In a word, the future of the entire country depends on the results of the planned meeting with the donors of PARIS CLUB! If they are positives, every thing will be and vice-versa.

The national developmental action is almost suspended between the budget deficiency and the expected decision of the donors meeting. So the Islamic republic of Mauritania should keep praying, without stopping for breathing until the making of that decision.

What a paradox! Our history was made in Paris and now our future will be made in Paris as well! Please forget the independence celebration, there is nothing much to celebrate there. The colonial history of yesterday is the same if not worst as the one of today and may be tomorrow! The evidence is that the destiny of this nation will be made in the capital of the other nation! There, it was positively made, this time at least!

The President kept his promises and the Prime Ministers and eight of his ministers came back home as heroes of the Paris negotiations where they used every talent, every word they have learned, every figure they could remember, every wisdom they could think of. The top objective on that table was to convince the donors to finance the national development programs.

Finally, the nation fears and tears turned into hopes and smiles that ended it all in jubilations! So Mauritania hopes have just come out of terrible fears. The new government becomes the government of all hopes. The registered achievements have gone beyond all expectations! The developmental action will be financed by 2.1 billion US dollars, as promised.

The nation will live in prosperity for the two coming years, without any financial deficit! Hopefully, this time, it must be true unlike the last declaration of the transitional era which said that the national treasury was full of millions, a lie that was made public by the new regime. Tired you are-as every one- of the lies of every regime. That is enough and enough is enough!

Let this nation be true and just this time at least in its declarations, in its promises and more important in its concrete, quick actions of development! Then, Mauritania will voice the language of all hopes and forget the one of fears forever! Will you mind it?
